New IBM Power technologies and Smarter Computing innovations announced 5th February 2013

On 5 February 2013, IBM announced the introduction of new IBM Power Systems and Smarter Computing technologies during the “Smarter Computing: What’s Next. Ready Now.” webcast. I would like to share with you these new and exciting offerings:

  • New midrange Enterprise Power server, updated PowerLinux servers, along with Power 710 and 730 Entry Servers hardware list price comparable to x86 systems and Power 720 and 740 Entry Servers hardware list price competitive to x86 – all based on POWER7+ technology and designed for compute intensive workloads.
  • POWER7+ also offers increased performance, vs. POWER7, up to 20% for the 750 and up to 30% or higher for entry systems
  • Innovative storage offerings, including the IBM SmartCloud Storage Access self-service portal.
  • New smaller-sized configurations for IBM PureApplication System, new IBM PureData System for Analytics, and enhancements for both IBM PureFlex and Flex System.
